JAKARTA | KBA – Nyck de Vries, a Formula E driver, praised the inaugural Jakarta E-Prix which took place on Saturday, June 4, at the Ancol circuit, Jakarta, as a “great” event and was impressed with the layout and surface of the circuit, as reported by Motorsport.com reporter Jake Boxall-Legge from Jakarta June 4, 2022.
Motorsport.com is the world’s leading website launched on April 9, 1994, specializing in motor and auto racing news, including Formula One, Formula E, published in 13 languages. becomes part of the Motorsport Network company based in Miami, USA.
“The Jakarta circuit is mostly built specifically for Formula E racing, using two existing roads outside the Ancol Beach City mall but featuring asphalt and new bends on the east and west sides,” wrote the world’s prestigious magazine.
According to Motorsport, the Ancol circuit provides a variation on the regular street circuit, which uses roads that offer less grip compared to the special surfaces of the circuit in Jakarta.
“This brought a packed crowd as the event proved popular in Indonesia, attracting a lot of attention from the state media.”
De Vries felt that the race was a “huge success”, paying tribute to the fans who attended – as he received significant support due to his Indonesian roots in his family.
“I think the show was amazing. I think the excitement from all the fans, the passion and the kindness and welcome from everyone was just incredible,” said De Vries.
“I’m looking forward to coming back next year – hopefully, we’ll do a night race to cool off a bit!
“But I think the race was a huge success, and everyone seemed to be enjoying the event. So yeah, really grateful for their hospitality and excitement, because it was really fun.”
De Vries’ comments for cooler races – where temperatures hit 33 degrees C amid around 70% humidity – were echoed by race winner Mitch Evans.
“The fans are amazing. They’ve always been very supportive of motorsport,” Evans said.
“I think for Formula E it’s very important to come to Indonesia, this is obviously a large population. The whole event was really smooth, the track was good.”
“I hope we come back next year, maybe a little cooler would be nice!”
Nyck de Vries became one of the Formula E drivers who attracted attention of the Indonesian public ahead of the race in Jakarta.
Nyck de Vries, who holds the status as the 2020/2021 Formula E world champion, has Indonesian ancestry. He admitted that his grandfather was from Malang, East Java.
Uniquely again, this Dutch racer likes Indonesian specialties, namely lemper.
“It is true that I am of Indonesian descent from my grandfather. He used to live in Malang and decided to move to the Netherlands to avoid the war,” said De Vries at Monas, Central Jakarta, Thursday, June 2, as reported by Bolatimes.com.
He was very happy to have the opportunity to race in his grandfather’s homeland. Along with 21 other drivers.
Nyck de Vries did appear in the event at the 2022 Formula E which was held on Saturday, June 4. Unfortunately, in the country of his grandfather’s birth, De Vries has not succeeded in maximizing his performance. (kba)
