JAKARTA | KBA – Sudrajat Maslahat, a public policy expert and alumnus of FISIP UI, expressed concern about the existence of the Constitutional Court, which he says only serves to legitimize the cheating carried out by the KPU and President Jokowi, putting democracy in jeopardy.
He made these remarks to KBA News on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in response to the Constitutional Court’s decision affirming the victory of candidate pair 02 in the 2024 Presidential Election. In its decision, the Court blindly rejected the arguments presented by candidate pairs 01 and 03, thereby legalizing all inappropriate actions and fraud committed by the Jokowi regime.
“With this, all political and legal elites have legalized cheating and collectively killed the truth. I believe that the Constitutional Court, which can no longer protect the sovereignty of the people, should be dissolved. It’s just a waste of budget,” said the Chairman of the Advisory Council of APIB Banten.**
He also expressed concern about rumors at the Constitutional Court indicating that its Chair, Suhartoyo, was threatened that his case as a bribe recipient in the BLBI case while serving as a judge at the Supreme Court would be exposed if he supported the petitions of candidate pairs 01 and 03.*
“If this issue is true, it’s horrifying. Law in Indonesia has been hijacked by momentary political interests supported by oligarchy and nepotism,” he said.
“This is indeed the era where democracy and law fall into the clutches of power. I cannot imagine how the government will function, administered by a regime born out of a fraudulent process with no ethical or moral foundation,” he said.
Tending Towards Authoritarianism
“Logically, the regime will tend towards authoritarianism because it is accustomed to breaking and flouting the rules. Quoting Lord Acton, ‘Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely,’ meaning that power is prone to corruption, and absolute power will absolutely corrupt,” he added.**
“In such conditions, one must inevitably instigate strong control. I hope for a people’s congress; the people must take to the streets because the DPR (House of Representatives) and the legal institutions are no longer reliable. It might still be better if the Republic of Indonesia does not dissolve, but the facts are already pointing in that direction as regions like Aceh, Ambon, and Papua are calling for independence, given that the state is no longer a place to seek justice,” he added.**
“They, the elite and public officials resulting from a deceitful electoral process, are thieves with no intention of building the country or enriching its people. They are more inclined to enrich themselves and their cronies to maintain control over power,” he said.
“The people are merely tools to be manipulated. This is the culmination of a reform process that is ironic. Future elections are merely ceremonial events on the stage of power to legalize crime repeatedly,”**
“The state has merely become a den for brazen criminals and corruptors masquerading as law enforcers, with smirking faces full of camouflage, yet their hearts are as fierce as lions always ready to pounce on their differing citizens,” Sudrajat Maslahat concluded. (kba)
