JAKARTA | KBA – Muhammadiyah has outlined the criteria for individuals deemed suitable to be leaders. Certainly, this serves as a reference for the public when voting in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Muhammadiyah is a non-governmental Islamic organization and one of the largest in the country. It was founded in Kauman, Yogyakarta, on November 18, 1912.
Quoted by KBA News from the official Muhammadiyah website, the organization has provided seven criteria for leaders. What are they?
First, a leader must have integrity, referred to in religion as sidiq.
Second, a leader must have the capability or the ability to lead Indonesia, also known as amanah.
Third, a leader must possess the trait of tablig, also known as having a populist spirit and prioritizing the people’s interest for welfare, prosperity, and progress.
Fourth, one of the criteria a leader must have is to be visionary, possessing a strategic vision for the nation’s interest, also referred to as fatanah.
Fifth, having a statesman’s spirit, he must prioritize the country’s interest over personal interest, over group interest, over ethnic, religious interests, and so forth.
Sixth, the ability to establish international relations is also required for a national leader.
Seventh, from Muhammadiyah’s perspective, a leader must have a reformist spirit, always initiating renewal in the life of the nation and state.
“Every human is a leader. These seven criteria should not only be possessed by national leaders who hold positions but should also start from oneself, who must have a leadership spirit. This will broaden our perspective in choosing a candidate who will eventually lead the people,” he said. (kba).
