Through his ideas, Anies Baswedan presents a space for citizens to interact and create equality without any segmentation in the capital city. The third room which is shared by Jakarta residents is in city parks, sidewalks, bicycle lanes and even in the streets, KRL station area.
In this third room there is togetherness, similarities, and finally social solidarity among the various communities that exist. The routine of community activities often creates positive points of contact and becomes an interesting experience. This personal experience is what Governor Anies wants to build to make this city memorable and enjoyable.
The experiences of the residents – even at KRL stations – although short, are able to build a net beyond their personal scope.
Jakarta | KBA – Since being led by Anies Baswedan, Jakarta has continued to improve. Various areas in Jakarta are now getting neater.
Through his brilliant idea, Anies organizes DKI Jakarta by carrying out a concept he calls the ‘Third Room,’ namely as a place for interaction between citizens, where every development has the value of equality.
Governor Anies shared his stories and experiences regarding the construction of the third space as a means of interaction and equality in DKI Jakarta through the ‘#Dari Pendopo’ program through Anies Baswedan’s personal YouTube channel.
‘#Dari Pendopo’ which he gave the title “Third Room, Equal Interaction Space” he told about how the third space can make Jakarta a home for all in which there is a sense of equality, then the manifestation of the third room, success, and inspiration behind the arrangement of the capital city.
According to Anies, Jakarta is the center of the economy, culture, and center of government. Many people spend their time looking for a living, while he said, the city is not a place to make a living, the city must be a place to live.
Furthermore, Anies explained that there are three spaces in the city of Jakarta. The first room is a house where we live with our family, then the second room is where we work and study, and the third and often overlooked is the third room as an alternative place to build a city.

Therefore, through his idea, Anies created a space for citizens to interact and create equality without segmentation in the capital city, he built a third space.
The third space that has been built since 2018-2021 includes 296 city parks, 29 urban forests and 154 green lines. In addition, Anies presents 241 kilometers of sidewalks.
Anies’ seriousness in creating another third space has manifested in the arrangement of eight stations, namely Pasar Senen Station, Tanah Abang Station, Juanda Station, Sudirman Station, Palmerah, Tebet, Manggarai, and Gondangdia.
Anies also built a space for interaction between residents by converting the area that was originally used for four-wheeled vehicles, two-wheeled vehicles and motorcycles to be converted into a pedestrian street.
“From the park that is used as a place to play, starting from the sidewalk, it is used for interaction and getting experiences. The station area that has been converted into an area, then the highway area that is used for pedestrians is an example of how we can make the third space an attractive space for residents,” said Anies on his Youtube channel with the theme ‘Third room, equal interaction space’ quoted by KBA News in Jakarta, Monday, January 17, 2022.
From his brilliant ideas, Anies received many positive responses from netizens and many praised him.
One of the ‘Third Rooms’ built by Anies during his tenure in Jakarta was the arrangement of the Electric Rail Train (KRL) station area. There are at least eight KRL Station Areas that have been revitalized. Manggarai Station is one of them.
According to KBA News monitoring, Wednesday, January 19, 2022, the Manggarai Station area is now used by the community as an alternative place to enjoy the afternoon. Children are also seen using the place as a playroom.
Zami (11) admitted that his house in North Manggarai 2 does not have land that can be used as a place to play.
Since the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has revitalized the Manggarai Station area, he is happy because now he and his friends have a large enough place to play kites.
“There are a lot of cables in my house. There is no place to play, so play here,” said Zami when he was met by KBA News.
His activities are carried out after he comes home from school, the kite that is spread in the sky he deliberately brings from home, sometimes he buys it from a trader who is also in the Manggarai Station area.
“Come here after school but eat first at home, then come here,” he said.

For information, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has revitalized Manggarai Station into an integrated station that is integrated with other modes of transportation.
The station yard looks greener, even the chaotic vehicles are no longer visible.
Apart from being a traffic area for people who want to use train transportation, the station is now equipped with facilities such as parks, guiding blocks, bicycle parking areas, prayer rooms, bus stops to get on and off online motorcycle taxi passengers on the left and west sides to the Bajaj hangout.
Information signs are also provided as a form of central station which will later be integrated as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) area.
The existence of a plaza makes the Manggarai Station area look neater. This plaza is equipped with guiding blocks, benches, and information signs.
Anies’ Brilliant Idea
The owner of the @Hidayah2452 account admitted that in the country where he works, ideas like this have been implemented in that country, the feeling of being comfortable when walking. People of all ages and professions can walk without social inequality, and respect each other.
“That’s true, sir, I work in Hong Kong, I feel comfortable when I walk, the streets are comfortable, workers, students, office people, the elderly all mingle on the streets. There is no distance that distinguishes between the tie and the lowly workers. Everyone has the awareness to maintain cleanliness, order, and mutual respect.” said @Hidayah2452.
In addition, there are also netizens who are always waiting for Anies Baswedan to upload the latest videos. According to him, Anies’ content can add insight.

Then there were residents outside Jakarta who commented. Inaf Rizal said he was jealous of Jakartans who have smart leaders. He also gave support to Anies to become president in 2024.
“I envy Jakarta, which has intelligent, trustworthy leaders. Come on, Mr. Anies, quickly become president in 2024, so that the Indonesian people can feel happiness, not only Jakarta.” he said.
In line with Inaf Rizal, this Bandung resident hopes that other cities can follow Jakarta’s example in providing safe and comfortable walking and transportation areas.

“Hopefully the city of Bandung and its surrounding cities can imitate Jakarta. We want to be able to walk comfortably and have safe and convenient transportation,” @Dini Andayani.

There is also a mention of the former vocalist of the band Nidji Giring Ganesha. He prays for his illness to be quickly removed, soon to get a stage in another place.
“Building a clean, orderly and neat culture in Jakarta requires real work. Alhamdulillah, after four years under the command of Bang Anies, the dream of DKI Jakarta has begun to come true. Greetings common sense to our brothers and sisters whose brains are still suffering from the flu…. May Allah swt remove the disease. To Giring and friends, I hope you find the right stage for you… Amen.” wrote @House Shelter Cat (RSK).
