JAKARTA | KBA – DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan entrusted a school building with the concept of green building and Net Zero Carbon to continue considering that he will soon retire in October.
This was conveyed by Anies when he inaugurated four public school buildings with the concept of Net Zero Carbon or low emissions at the Public Elementary School (SDN) 08 Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
“So to all levels of the Education Office to help keep this project going forward. So that our schools will become schools that use the principle of sustainable development,” said Anies.
For Anies, the school building with an environmentally friendly concept is an important thing to continue because school buildings are the most widely owned buildings by the government. Meanwhile, speaking of global carbon emissions, buildings account for 39% of global carbon emissions and consume 36% of total global energy.
For this reason, environmentally friendly buildings are made. This program is also in line with Jakarta’s commitment to reduce 30% of green house gas emissions by 2030.
In addition, Anies hopes that the school building with the green building concept will become a direct educational medium for children, where they will have an idea of how environmentally friendly buildings are, so that this will be in accordance with the spirit of Jakarta to become a global city whose people care about various things. global issue.
“We want school buildings to inspire and stimulate people to think and imagine. Here, students will learn from this building, such as electrical engineering, then solar panels, where there is pure physics, there is applied physics. So, the material in this building suddenly became a teaching tool for teachers,” he explained.
Furthermore, the former Minister of Education and Culture also advised school principals and students to both maintain and care for the school building so that in two, three years it still looks like new.
“So school principals must be guarded to make sure that when they come next year, in two years and three years, it still feels like new, that’s what we have to make sure happens,” he said.
“Then for the teachers to use it as a learning medium, we don’t just see it as an installed material, but use it for learning because basically anything can be a learning material. This is a great opportunity,” he continued.
Previously reported, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan symbolically inaugurated four environmentally friendly public school buildings, namely the Net Zero Carbon or low emission concept at the Public Elementary School (SDN) 08 Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
The four schools that were totally revitalized are SDN Ragunan 08, SDN Grogol Selatan 09, SDN Duren Sawit 14, and SMAN 96 Jakarta.
On that occasion, Anies said that these four schools were the first in Jakarta to implement the Net Zero Carbon concept.
“This morning, we are witness to a historic event, Jakarta is officially the first place for a public school to have Net Zero Carbon, a school with a green building concept,” said Anies, Wednesday, September 28, 2022.
Anies said, school buildings in Jakarta have an old concept, while the students are already in the 21st century. That’s why there needs to be changes in school buildings.
“What we are facing in the world of education for children is the 21st century, the teacher is in the 20th century, the building is in the 19th century. That is what happens in schools. So we move with the changing times,” he said.
Anies hopes that with this Net Zero Carbon concept building, in the future there will be more schools with low emission concepts.
“We hope that all schools in Jakarta today will start with four schools, later all schools in Jakarta will be schools with a green building concept with a 21st century design, that is our hope,” said Anies. (kba)
