JAKARTA | KBA – The Jakarta Provincial Government has reopened the Jakarta Cikini Public Library, and the HB Jassin Literary Documentation Center (PDS) which is located in the Panjang Building in the Taman Ismail Marzuki area, Jalan. Cikini Raya, Menteng, Central Jakarta.
Governor Anies Baswedan officially opened the Jakarta Library and the Hans Bague (HB) Jassin Literary Document Center on Thursday, July 7, 2022. The first day opened to the public, this new modern library was enthusiastically welcomed by the residents of the capital.
When entering the main door of the library, visitors will be amazed by the modern library concept.
Visitors will be asked to scan the visit registration barcode that has been previously filled in via the library.jakarta.go.id link.
Then, visitors will get a barcode to deposit their bags and other items. Visitors’ belongings will be placed in lockers. It is only allowed to bring valuables into the reading room and later will get a special bag to carry valuables to the reading room, visitors will also be given an identity card to enter the library.

Entering the library, visitors will be greeted with a mix of gray buildings and a dominant brown interior which brings a calm and comfortable impression to linger in the library.
Seen, various reading books ranging from history, general collection books, agriculture, parenting, economics to education are neatly arranged on the brown wooden shelf. Visitors are free to explore the books in the library, the staff will also assist if visitors have difficulty finding reading books.
Brown chairs and a bar table of the same color, natural lighting from reflected glass and an aesthetically pleasing gray lamp, people who are busy reading or working using their laptops, and a very calm atmosphere and an aesthetic and modern building become a sight. on the 4th floor of the DKI Jakarta Cikini Public Library, and the HB Jassin Literary Documentation Center (PDS).

Other unique facilities, such as the Podcast Room, are intended for visitors who like media activities such as creating sound and visual content. In this room, it is open to the public and can be used for free.
Other facilities available in this library include disabled toilets, escalators to move floors, galleries of printed and recorded works, dialogue booths, and broadcast booths. Each Bikik has its own function and virtue.
The building with an area of 10 thousand square meters provides around 138,000 book collections, 70,000 of which can be borrowed by visitors.

Another visitor, Ika said, she came specifically to the Jakarta Cikini Library to introduce reading interest to her children. Moreover, the library is already child-friendly.
“Right now, it’s a literacy emergency, it’s really hard for them to read, and people love to play with gadgets all the time. Well, this is a cool place to have children’s play facilities too. So, if you are first persuaded to play while you are given an interesting colorful book, the child can read a little and then continue playing again,” he explained.

The Jakarta Library and the Hans Bague (HB) Jassin Literary Document Center (PDS) have been revitalized by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government since 2019. The revitalization of the Jakarta Library and HB Jassin’s PDS is one of the 23 promises made by Governor Anies Baswedan in the 2016 gubernatorial election.

Chairman of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta Provincial House of Representatives (DPRD) Gerindra Faction Mr. Iman Satria welcomed the inauguration of the Jakarta Library at Taman Ismail Marzuki (TIM) as a place for knowledge and socialization that can give birth to extraordinary ideas.
“The presence of another library in Jakarta is also one of the things that the legislature wants as a partner of the DKI Provincial Government. The existence of a library can be a place for citizens to read, so that it can give birth to a nation’s children who are rich in knowledge,” he said.
He admitted that with the new face of the Jakarta library, which is more modern, beautiful, and sustainable, it makes visitors feel comfortable and not overcrowded. As a representative of the people, he hopes that in every city of Jakarta there is one library that is the best like this TIM one
Meanwhile, Head of the DKI Jakarta Library and Archives Service (Dispusip), Mr. Wahyu Haryadi, said that this library is very child and disability friendly. After being revitalized, the enthusiasm of residents who come to the library is expected to be higher and can encourage people’s interest in reading.
“The services provided at this library facilitate all segments from early childhood, children, adults, the elderly and people with disabilities,” said Wahyu.
