We need a President who prioritizes the good name of the nation over foreign capital. It is true that we need that capital, but not necessarily by selling national honor and dignity.
JAKARTA | KBA-NasDem Party Presidential Candidate Anies Rasyid Baswedan is believed to be able to maintain the dignity and pride of the nation and state if he is elected President. His track record during his time as the Governor of DKI Jakarta shows that he is a man who firmly maintains the honor and dignity of the nation.
Political observer and senior demonstrator Salim Hutajulu stated this to KBA News, Friday afternoon.
“We need a President who prioritizes the good name of the nation over foreign capital. It is true that we need that capital, but it doesn’t have to be by selling the nation’s honor and dignity.”
The events in Morowali, Central Sulawesi show that something is wrong with the problem of seeking foreign investment in this country. The incident took the form of a clash between Indonesian workers (TKI) and foreign workers (TKA) from China. The clash left three people dead, two from local and one from China.
The police have named 17 suspects for instigating the riots and all of them are Indonesians. This, according to a former New Order political prisoner who was accused of being involved in the 1974 Malari riots, feels very strange.
“Our people were killed but none of the foreign nationals became suspects,” he complained.
Not transparent
In the Morowali case, according to Salim, the government is considered not transparent. We don’t understand how the investment process goes there, all of a sudden we heard a few years ago, many Chinese people entered Soekarno-Hatta Airport. All of a sudden there were reports of wage gaps which created unrest there. Then now there was a riot.
The Chinese company in Morowali is mining nickel. “Then we heard complaints from Faisal Basri that Indonesia got almost nothing from the nickel mine. Most of the mining products, which are around Rp. 450 trillion per year, fall into the hands of China.
“I know Faisal Basri, a UI intellectual with very high integrity. If he screams, it means that there is indeed an acute economic problem in this country.”
The people should be aware that a change of government is needed in order for the problem of Chinese foreign workers to be exposed. The current government seems impossible to give us pride. We need a new leader to fix all that.
“The leader is Anies Baswedan,” said Salim Hutajulu. (kba)
