Amidst the evolving political arena, the AMIN duo, backed by KPP’s diverse supporting parties, stands out. Their unique blend of broad political ideals and grassroots engagement promises to reshape the 2024 presidential election landscape.
JAKARTA | KBA – The Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar duo, now buoyed by the acronym AMIN, has seen its base strengthen with PKS’s official endorsement. This backing came on the heels of the IX Shura Council Deliberation (MMS) throwing its weight behind them.
It wasn’t long ago, in February 2023, when the MMS VIII named Anies as their chosen presidential candidate. This latest decision by MMS IX, in favor of Muhaimin Iskandar as the vice-presidential candidate, speaks to a growing consensus among key players.
Hendri Satrio, a keen political observer, was quick to note the significance of PKS’s support. “With the PKS behind them, AMIN’s strength has clearly surged,” he commented to KBA News on September 16, 2023. Notably, a fortnight earlier, both NasDem and PKB had already voiced their support in Surabaya.
What sets this endorsement apart is the unique voter bases each party brings to the table. Each of these affiliations PKS, with its crescent and rice symbols; NasDem; and PKB caters to distinct voter segments.
This minimizes overlap and ensures a widening voter base for AMIN. Satrio explained, “Each party in the AMIN alliance has a distinct voter niche, meaning the support base is only expanding without conflicts.”
Anies’s standalone support base, disparate from the three backing parties, further broadens this coalition. Satrio added that this widespread backing gives the AMIN duo, comprising members from NasDem, PKB, and PKS, a substantial edge in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.
“The odds are now stacked in their favor,” emphasized the Paramadina University academic.
Hendri Satrio jestingly remarked that AMIN currently stands as the most formidable pair, mainly because they’ve officially announced their candidacy. He quipped, “While they’ve paired up, others are still solo acts.”
It’s worth noting that the political arena isn’t devoid of contenders. While AMIN has been making waves, Prabowo Subianto has secured support from Gerindra, Golkar, and PAN.
On another front, Ganjar Pranowo is backed by PDIP and PPP. However, both these presidential candidates have yet to finalize their vice-presidential running mates.
With the tides of political alliances shifting rapidly, the AMIN duo has set a notable precedent, showcasing what unified support can achieve. Only time will tell how these coalitions will fare as the race intensifies. (kba)
