DEPOK | KBA – The Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) held the Kickoff of the National Campaign in Depok, West Java, on Sunday, November 26, 2023. In this event, PKS launched the Campaign Program titled “Jakarta Remains the Capital City”.
PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu stated that PKS has been against the relocation of the Capital City from the beginning. This stance, according to Syaikhu, is based on listening to the aspirations of academics and the majority of the public voice.
“One of PKS’s most crucial tracks in Parliament for the nation’s future, and one of the main ideas that PKS will fight for in the 2024 Elections, is about the issue of the Capital City Relocation (IKN). The government proposed the IKN Bill, moving the Capital City from Jakarta to East Kalimantan,” said Syaikhu.
“What is PKS’s stance? After listening to aspirations from community leaders, experts, academics, environmental activists, and the majority public voice, PKS decided to reject the enactment of the IKN Bill. PKS views that Jakarta is Still Suitable as the Capital City,” he continued.
Besides the aspirations from academics and the public voice, PKS sees three reasons that make Jakarta remain the Capital City, namely from historical, developmental, and sustainability perspectives.
“Jakarta, where Ir. Soekarno-Moh. Hatta proclaimed independence and other historical national events were born. Of course, this historical aspect should be an important consideration in how the Capital City is placed,” Syaikhu explained.
He elaborated that the Capital City inherits the nation’s historical values, which cannot be ignored in fostering nationalistic spirit.
From a developmental perspective, PKS views that achieving equitable development is not through relocating the Capital but by building economic centers in small cities.
“Equitable development is not achieved by moving the Capital, but by building new economic growth centers based on the competitive advantages of each region. Transforming medium cities into big cities, and small cities into medium cities. Developing advanced villages as a support for city development,” said Syaikhu.
Lastly, from a sustainability perspective, PKS sees the need for environmental conservation and ecological care for future generations. In this case, the island of Kalimantan as the world’s lungs and a center for green economic growth.
“Kalimantan is the lungs of Indonesia, and even the world’s lungs. Therefore, we must position Kalimantan as a Center for Green Economic Growth, which is an economy capable of creating economic growth, employment, and public welfare through development that advances biodiversity and environmental sustainability,” he stated.
“Green economy, green jobs, are Indonesia’s future, and Kalimantan will be the main driver and center for Indonesia’s green economic growth,” Syaikhu concluded.
The National Campaign Kickoff of the Prosperous Justice Party was also attended by Indonesian Presidential Candidate Anies Baswedan, leaders of the DPP and DPW, Heads and Deputy Heads of Regions from PKS, and Candidate Members of the Council from Jabodetabek. (kba)
