JAKARTA | KBA – National Teachers’ Day, which falls on November 25, 2024, should be a momentum for teachers in Indonesia to determine their political stance regarding the 2024 Presidential Election.
This last National Teachers’ Day before the 2024 Presidential Election should unite teachers to support a teacher becoming a national leader. It’s time for a teacher to become president.
“So today (Saturday, November 25, 2023, ed) is the last Teachers’ Day before the 2024 Presidential Election. Teachers in Indonesia must unite to make a teacher president,” explained Muhammad Ramli Rahim, Spokesperson for the AMIN National Winning Team, to KBA News.
The Chairman of the Indonesian Digital School Network Association (JSDI) emphasized that among all the current presidential candidates, only Anies Baswedan is a teacher, an educator.
Besides having been the Rector of Paramadina University with various breakthroughs and achievements, Ramli continued, Anies also mobilized thousands of talented young people to teach in various remote areas through the Indonesia Teaches Movement.
Not only that, Anies also showed his support and concern for teachers while in government. For example, when he was the Minister of Education and Culture, Anies established a directorate general specifically dealing with teachers and educational personnel.
“The Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Ditjen Guru & TK) was established by Mr. Anies. This shows that Mr. Anies is very focused, very concerned about teachers,” revealed the owner of the Ranu Prima College (RPC) education institution based in Makassar.
Similarly, when he served as the Governor of DKI Jakarta. The former Chairman of the Indonesian Teachers’ Association (IGI) shared various breakthroughs made by Anies while leading the Capital. This includes paying attention to teachers’ welfare.
“There are no teachers in Indonesia whose income is higher than that of teachers in DKI Jakarta. No teacher who is registered with the Provincial Government earns below the provincial minimum wage,” he disclosed.
Anies’ concern and support for teachers will also be applied nationally if elected in the 2024 Presidential Election. In his vision and mission, Anies is committed to eliminating the honorary teacher system. All teachers must become civil servants (ASN).
“So all contract teachers must become ASN (civil servants). ASN can be civil servants or P3K (government employees with work agreements),” he disclosed.
“In his grand vision, whatever their profession, they deserve to prosper, especially teachers,” added the educator who is also an entrepreneur.
Another commitment of Anies in the field of education is to ensure that all Indonesian children are accommodated in schools by providing an equal number of seats from elementary to high school levels.
Not like the current pyramid-shaped system. Where the elementary level can accommodate many students, but as they move up (middle and high school), not all are accommodated due to a lack of seats or schools.
“So Mr. Anies is a teacher, a good teacher, once a minister, so he really understands education. God willing, his policies will favor education,” he concluded. (kba)
