JAKARTA | KBA – The number one presidential candidate, Anies Rasyid Baswedan, gave his running mate, Muhaimin Iskandar, the opportunity to deliver a speech at the 2024 Presidential Election ballot number drawing event held by the KPU on Tuesday night, November 14, 2023.
In addition to demonstrating Anies’s capacity as a statesman who does not promote himself—given his advantage in public speaking—this also shows that both are in sync and act as a united leadership entity.
“Yesterday’s appearance really showed that the AMIN (Anies-Muhaimin) pair is already a complete unity. We should all pray that this reality can continue to manifest continuously. God willing,” explained the CEO of Local Governance (LOGOV) Celebes, Abdul Madjid Sallatu, to KBA News, Thursday, November 16, 2023.
“The statement by ABW (Anies Baswedan) that AMIN is a twin entity deserves to be widely campaigned. Another apparent aspect is the friendship and camaraderie of the AMIN pair. This becomes important if AMIN is entrusted by the people to lead the nation and country as a twin entity,” he continued.
Because, he emphasized, before striving to embody national unity and integration, it’s important that the value and spirit of AMIN’s twin entity shine forth first.
Given the very complex problems of national, state, and community life, a fundamental understanding at the national leadership level is much needed.
“This will also affect the performance of the cabinet they will lead if elected. Because it really requires management and control of programs and activities throughout their term of service,” said the senior academician who is also a retired lecturer from Hasanuddin University.
“Thus, we can hope that this early reflection of a twin entity is a very strategic step. May the grace of Allah the Almighty always accompany AMIN. Aamiin Ya Rabbal Alamin,” he concluded.
Anies himself, after the number drawing, explained why he did not deliver a speech at the time and gave the opportunity to Muhaimin. Because he and Muhaimin are a complete unity or twin entity.
“We are a twin entity. Taking turns. And we want to show that the vice president has an equal caliber, the vice president has experience, knowledge, and excellent communication skills,” said Anies.
The former Governor of Jakarta also expressed pride in his vice-presidential candidate. He wanted to show his pride in Muhaimin to the public, one of which was through the momentum of that speech.
“I am proud to partner with Gus Imin. And we show that pride by allowing all Indonesian people to witness a vice-presidential candidate who can convey his ideas very well, his message is clear, his delivery is cheerful, and his illustrations are very easy to understand,” added Anies.
Indeed, Muhaimin himself delivered his speech very cheerfully. Encouraging fair elections, he likened the election to the sport of football, which is full of sportsmanship.
“Everyone knows football, everyone knows what sliding, tackling is, and everyone knows booing the players who cheat. Everyone knows referees who are well-certified,” said Anies.
According to him, Muhaimin’s speech contained messages that were easy for the public to understand. “These messages are easily caught. And this is a message to all that we are a twin pair, complementing and enriching each other,” he concluded.
